Reasons for keeping Grade R at Pre-Primary School
The Grade R year prepares the child for Primary school and is an important year in the development of the child. Many private and public schools are now offering Grade R as a strategy to ensure adequate numbers at their schools.
A leading educational psychologist has found that Grade R at a Primary school establishment deprives the child of a necessary developmental state in the child’s self-esteem in that a Pre-Primary school child experiences the importance of being a senior in the school before becoming a junior at a Primary school.
A child’s school development is a series of troughs and peaks as they progress from Pre-Primary through to Primary and on to High school.
This process cannot be offered at a Grade R in a Primary school as the child will have to wait eight years before experiencing the importance of being a senior.
The Grade R syllabus at FLEDGLINGS is designed to equip the child more adequately for Primary school. The Grade R programme offered is equal to or better than those offered by some government and private schools.
